1st Dan  
Timescale 1 year consistent practice as 1st Kyu.
Technique Randori no Kata * complete (17)
Koryu dai San * sections: A + B (16)
Koryu dai Yon * complete (25)
Previous syllabus as required at the discretion of examining panel.
Application

Randori: a minimum of three bouts of hikitategeiko.

  • One bout must demonstrate knowledge and application of kaeshi waza (5 atemi waza from the Randori no Kata as
    counter techniques by tanto against toshu) in tanto hikitategeiko.
  • One bout must demonstrate the use of combination techniques by toshu against tanto.
  • The third bout must demonstrate a knowledge and application of the 17 Randori no Kata in combination and as counter technique in the performance of toshu hikitategeiko.
2nd Dan  
Timescale 2 years consistent practice as 1st Dan
Technique Koryu dai San * sections: A + B + C + D (29)
Goshin ho section: Techniques from tegetana no kuzushi (8)
Previous syllabus as required (at the discretion of examining panel).
Application

  • One bout must demonstrate the use of combination techniques by toshu against tanto.
  • The third bout must demonstrate a knowledge and application of the Randori no Kata in combination and as counter technique in the performance of toshu hikitategeiko.
4th Dan  
Timescale 4 years consistent practice as 3rd Dan.
Technique Koryu dai Ni complete (16)
Goshin ho Datotsushu no waza - against strikes, punches and kicks (6)
Tekubi dori 2 – against grips (18)
Previous syllabus as required (at the discretion of examining panel).
Application Randori: a minimum of three bouts of hikitategeiko (toshu & tanto) or demonstration of an understanding of randori or referee accreditation for candidates.

  • One bout must demonstrate knowledge and application of kaeshi waza (using any technique from the Randori no Kata as counter techniques by tanto against toshu) in tanto hikitategeiko.
  • One bout must demonstrate the use of combination techniques by toshu against tanto.
  • The third bout must demonstrate a knowledge and application of the Randori no Kata in combination and as counter technique in the performance of toshu hikitategeiko.
5th Dan  
Timescale 5 years consistent practice as 4th Dan.

Goshin ho Dogi dori (10)

Application Randori: at the discretion of examining panel or demonstration of an understanding of randori

6th Dan  
Timescale 6 years consistent practice as 5th Dan.
Technique Koryu dai Roku A + B + C (22)
Goshin ho ‘Three methods of breaking balance’ using datsuryoku, tegatana & kaiten (10)

7th Dan  
Timescale 7 years consistent practice as 6th Dan.
